Proxy Server

4.1 Introduction

"Rainmail Server" comes with a Proxy Server that helps you

You will need to configure your Internet Browser before you can start browsing the Internet. Configurations of different Web Clients are given below.

4.2 Configuring IE

  1. Start Internet Explorer 6.0.

  2.  Select Internet options from the Tools menu.

  3. Click on the Connections tab.

  4. In the Connections tab, click on Local Area Network {LAN} Settings.

  5. In the dialog that comes up ,

    1. Check Use a proxy server and Bypass proxy server for local addresses check boxes.

    2. In the Address field enter the IP address of Rainmail Server (in this example 192.168.1.4), and

    3. Enter Port number as 8080 in the Port field .

    4. Click on the Advanced button to open the proxy Settings window.

    5. In the Proxy Settings window,


      1. Enter IP address of the Rainmail Server in the HTTP field (in this case 192.168.1.4) and Port Number as 8080 in the Port Field.

      2. Enter IP address of the Rainmail Server in the Secure field (in this case 192.168.1.4) and Port Number as 8080 in the Port Field.

      3. Enter IP address of the Rainmail Server in the FTP field (in this case 192.168.1.4) and Port Number as 8080 in the Port Field.

      4. Leave the Gopher and Socks fields empty.

      5. In the Do not use proxy server for addresses begining with field enter the IP address of the Rainmail Server (in this case 192.168.1.4).

      6. Click OK for all dialogs.

      7. Close Internet Explorer and restart.

4.3 Configuring Netscape/Mozilla

  1. Start Netscape Navigator.(6.1)

  2. Select Preferences from the Edit menu.

  3. In the Preferences dialog that comes up click on the Advanced button and then Proxies.

  4. In the Proxies window, select Manual proxy configuration.


    1. Enter the IP address of the Rainmail Server in the FTP Proxy field (in this case 192.168.1.4) and Port number as 8080 in the Port field.

    2. Enter the IP address of the Rainmail Server in the HTTP Proxy field (in this case 192.168.1.4) and Port number as 8080 in the Port field.

    3. Enter the IP address of the Rainmail Server in the SSL Proxy field (in this case 192.168.1.4) and Port number as 8080 in the Port field.

    4. Leave the Gopher Proxy and SOCKS v5 Host fields empty.

    5. Enter the IP address of the Rainmail Server in the No Proxy for field (in this case 192.168.1.4).

    6. Click OK .




  5. Close Netscape and restart it.

4.4 Configuring Instant Messengers


  1. Start MSN Messenger.  

  2. Select Options from the Tools menu.

  3. Click on the Connections tab.

  4. In the dialog that appears,

    1. Check I use a proxy server check box.

    2. Select HTTP Proxy for the Type field.

    3. Enter the IP address of the Rainmail Server in the Server field (in this case 192.168.1.4 ) and Port Number as 8080 in the Port field.

    4. Click OK.

  5. Close MSN and restart it.
